"Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast."
Psalm 139:7-10

It’s always a bit baffling to me when people say they’ve had no regrets in life, because I sure do! The first part of this passage, “Where can I flee from your presence?” makes me think of moments in my life, some small, some big, where I certainly behaved as if God was not present at all! But as I reflect on those cringe-worthy times, the knowledge of God’s ever-abiding presence is so comforting to me. He’s never given up on me. He’s held me steady when the weight of my choices or my circumstances seemed too much to bear.

He has seen each of us at our very best and worst, and yet his hand of grace and mercy has always been there…leading, guiding, encouraging us onward.

Deuteronomy 33:12 says, “Let the beloved of the Lord rest secure in him – the High God surrounds him all day long – the beloved rests between his shoulders.”

Father, we thank you for your abundant grace and your presence that is with us every moment of our lives. Thank you for never leaving us through all of the highs and lows. Lord, give us a greater awareness of your nearness that we may choose rest and security between your shoulders. And thank you forever, Jesus, our Way Maker.
