In verse 12, the prophet Isaiah speaks to the root of Jesse that will arise and rule over the world. This points to the coming of Jesus and his reign as King over all. He alone is our source of hope. When our hope is in Jesus, we are also filled with joy and peace! Peace that guards our hearts, minds and transcends all understanding! Unspeakable joy that surpasses any circumstance! When we are filled with such peace and joy, we also overflow with hope, spreading it to those around us as we point to Jesus! The key here is to trust in God.
Personally, I know I am not trusting in Him when I lack peace, joy, and hope. See, when I am trusting solely on myself, I am instead ruled by the tyranny of the urgent, striving, and despair. This is the opposite of what I want my life to look like! I need the power of the Holy Spirit in my life daily. So today, God, I choose to trust in you and you alone. I trust that you are my only source of hope. You are good. I ask that you fill me with your joy and peace by the power of your Holy Spirit so that I may overflow with your hope and point others to you today, in Jesus’ name.
