When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”
1 Corinthians 15:54

Some years ago, my father passed away on the morning after Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving day that year consisted of family members taking turns between sitting with him as he labored his way to heaven and gathering with everyone else at my sister’s home to celebrate the holiday that was my dad’s absolute favorite. The timing of his passing could not have been more fitting as he had modeled a life of gratitude to the Lord.

The above verse proved so true to us during that season. Although we miss our dad and grandad to this day, we’re so thankful for the hope we have in Christ to see him again in eternity. This year, there have been some losses in our community and in the body of Cypress Creek Church. And while we will mourn and miss these dear friends and family members, we can rejoice that the loss is only temporary, and our hope is grounded in the victory that Jesus provided through the cross.
