“Then Jesus asked, “What is the kingdom of God like? What shall I compare it to? It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his garden. It grew and became a tree, and the birds perched in its branches.” Again he asked, “What shall I compare the kingdom of God to? It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds of flour until it worked all through the dough.””
Luke 13:18-21

What a powerful example of small beginnings! I did a little digging online, and it turns out these seeds really are super small. And yet, as it says in Luke 13, one small seed can end up growing to become a tree that provides branches for the birds. It’s comforting to know that God isn’t expecting me to walk out my door as the next Billy Graham or famous evangelist of our time…no, He’s just wanting me to start small…start by sharing what He’s done and still doing in my life. I may not have all the theological answers or the smoothest delivery to my friends, but I have my story and can simply begin by sharing what God’s done in my life. The way He’s freed me from worry. The way He’s shaped and designed me before I was even born. The way He’s given me worth and a purpose before I was even born.

Lord, You’ve truly changed my life. Please help me fight through the fears of rejection or embarrassment that stop me from sharing You and Your truth with those around me. May I live in light of the truth of these verses…trusting that You can do big things through small opportunities.
