"They had Peter and John brought before them and began to question them: “By what power or what name did you do this?” Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: “Rulers and elders of the people! If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a man who was lame and are being asked how he was healed, then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed."
Acts 4:7-10

Every person is following something. Everyone is drawing from a wellspring of some kind. We either draw from the wellspring of life, or we draw from a well of empty promises and things of this world. Even as believers of Jesus Christ, we can find ourselves drawing from those dry wells. Everyday, the Lord sweetly beckons us to drink from his source of living water. The Lord desires to fill us up, so we may overflow and bear much fruit by the power of the Holy Spirit. The Lord desires that we abide in Himself, and walk in-step with his Spirit.

Peter and John were walking in-step with the Holy Spirit, overflowing with power that only God can give. A holy overflow that empowered them to heal, preach, and proclaim in the name of Jesus. We won’t ever experience putting our life on the line by the very people who crucified our Savior as John and Peter did in Acts 4. In the western world, we in general rarely experience putting our lives on the line for the sake of the Gospel. However, we will frequently experience risking our social status, our reputation, and acceptance from others. But, when people see Jesus in us, they ask by what power we are able to be different. The situations we find ourselves in may look different than the apostles in the early church, but the principle remains the same. When people see giftings and fruits that only Jesus can give, they will seek to know what power source you are drawing from. And it is by the grace of God that in those moments, He provides us the opportunity to share His Gospel.

As we go about our day today, let’s ask God to fill us up in such a way that others notice His goodness. Let’s ask God to lead us, and give us a boldness to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus as we walk in-step with Him.
