"Another thing you do: You flood the Lord's altar with tears. You weep and wail because he no longer looks with favor on your offerings or accepts them with pleasure from your hands. 14 You ask, "Why?" It is because the Lord is the witness between you and the wife of your youth. You have been unfaithful to her, though she is your partner, the wife of your marriage covenant."
Malachi 2:13-14

When I was a sophomore in college, my parents went through a pretty nasty divorce. Life for me was altered from that point on. Holidays, my wedding day, the births of my two sons, and many other things looked radically different than I anticipated they would. There was a ripple effect that took place with everyone that was close to the situation. However, because of the grace and mercy of God, it has not all been doom and gloom.

Even though that part of life is not what God intended it to be, He has provided good moments along the way. It is clear here in these verses of Malachi that marriage is a very important covenant between a man, a woman, and God Himself. When this covenant is broken, there is damage that inflicts itself on His most precious creations. God is not pleased when this covenant is broken. May we be reminded today of the gift that marriage is and delight ourselves in our spouse, that is truly a good gift from a God that relentlessly loves us.
