Rhonda Patterson
“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness? No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other, You cannot serve both God and Money.”
Matthew 6:22-24

My husband and I are huge fans of Astros baseball. One thing I love is as you follow a team through their seasons, you get to know more about the players and their backstories, some are incredibly inspiring. As each season ends, there are always players that move into free agency with the hopes of obtaining a larger contract, be it with the Astros or another organization. I’ve remarked before, “How much do they need?!” in my hope that they would choose to stay with the Astros rather than leaving for more money. We’re talking about million dollar contracts after all.

But when I allow the Lord to examine my own decisions with my purchases and finances…the truth is I sometimes feel Him ask, “How much do you need Rhonda?” It is so easy to fall into the trap of seeing and wanting more, of not being satisfied with what we have.

Lord, help us to trust You more. Forgive us when we carelessly choose our own way. You alone are our provision and we want You to be the center of our finances. May we find our satisfaction in You alone each and every day.
