"and the offerings of Judah and Jerusalem will be acceptable to the Lord, as in days gone by, as in former years."

"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them."
Matthew 5:17

When reading Matthew 5:17, the first thing that came to mind was the lyrics to a popular worship song, Way Maker…

And You are
Way maker, miracle worker
Promise Keeper, light in the darkness
My God, that is who You are

God is a promise keeper. As believers in Jesus Christ, we find our confidence and our purpose in the promises that He has made throughout scripture. I can think of one story after another where God’s promises carried me through a hard time or brought me hope. This passage goes on to say that if we ignore God’s commands and teach others to do the same, we will be called the “least in the Kingdom of Heaven”. But anyone who obeys God’s laws and teaches them will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven.”

According to this passage we have two simple tasks, obey and teach. We are called to obey God’s word and to tell others about Him. Simple enough. I personally have nothing to offer mankind apart from Jesus. Yeah, sure I can feed the poor, help the sick, donate to a good cause, but it is all for nothing if it is not done in the name of Jesus. Jesus’ power and glory is found in His promises.

I encourage you this week to find three promises found in scripture. Live them out wholeheartedly. Then share them with someone that needs to be reminded of God’s power.
