The phrase that stands out to me the most in the verses above is “moved with compassion.” Jesus did not just sense compassion or neglect compassion, he was moved by it. I will be the first to admit that every time that one of my kids brings a non-serious injury or complaint to me, I am not always moved to compassion. The word compassion means to have concern for suffering. Jesus offers us another way to live and another way to love offers. He meets us where we are at in our suffering so that we can be set free from it. What does being moved by compassion look like for you? Is there a relationship, situation, or change of perspective where you can show greater compassion?
“A man with leprosy came and knelt in front of Jesus, begging to be healed. “If you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean,” he said. Moved with compassion, Jesus reached out and touched him. “I am willing,” he said. “Be healed!” Instantly the leprosy disappeared, and the man was healed.”
