When I encounter something that makes me uncomfortable or rubs me the wrong way, I tend to retreat and find a way to avoid whatever it is that is bothering me. I find that the same is true when I am faced with my own sin. It’s uncomfortable and most of the time disheartening to see my sinful nature and actions before me. My instinct is to try and brush it off and find a way to avoid it altogether. However, I’ve found that God’s way instead, is to help us work through our sin and be freed and healed; not to go around it or pretend like it doesn’t exist. The idea of actually facing my sin always feels daunting but when I allow God to enter the picture, His “ever-present help” is evident and His way of pushing me towards confession and repentance is always better in the end. It’s God’s kindness that doesn’t leave me blind to my sin but instead, reveals it to me for the sake of redemption and freedom. Ask God to show you if there’s any sin that He wants you to confess and then surrender to His will and receive His grace; what amazing kindness He has shown towards us!
"God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble."
Psalm 46:1
"Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?"
Romans 2:4
