Sometimes I think I understand a concept, and then someone gives me an illustration, and it brings even more clarity. I think this verse about the responsibility of a husband is really palatable when it tells me to love my wife. It’s when you add the illustration “as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her” that this gets challenging. Christ loved the church so much that he gave up all comfort to come to earth and sacrifice to the point of death.
Am I willing to love Christina to the extreme of sacrificing all comfort in my life? Am I willing to put my own needs aside and be selfless to the point of death? Those are challenging questions, but it is necessary for us to answer in the affirmative if we want to love our wives fully. As for the wives reading this, what can you be doing to make it easier for your husband to love sacrificially?
