“‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.’ This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church.”
Ephesians 5:31-32

Marriage is about saying “yes” to one person for the rest of your life, while setting boundaries and leaving other relationships behind. Leaving your father and mother behind is both literal and figurative. In marriage, you need to physically move into your own space away from your original family. Also, you need to leave the patterns of interaction, fears, and wounds from your family of origin behind…hopefully by getting healing and becoming healthy before you start your marriage.

The healthier you are personally, the more you will be able to fully unite with your spouse. Unity with your spouse is an amazing goal to pursue. Be best friends. Be each other’s biggest encouragers. And be each other’s most significant source of support.

If you’re not married, how do you see this mystery of “Christ and the church” in your faith walk? How can you seek to understand more of what it means to be a part of the bride of Christ (the church)?
