“Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
John 4:13-14
“Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.”
1 Peter 1:8-9

Whenever my hope or anticipation is in anything or anyone other than the Lord, I am eventually disappointed. It isn’t that the object of my expectation is ever at fault. Nothing was ever formed or created that was intended to replace the deep, abiding joy that only He can give. From the time I was a child I can recall how my desire for something would also bring me positive emotions and thoughts. Sometimes, the very idea that it would fulfill something in me made me impatient and caused me to be frustrated. The greater my longing, the greater my chagrin when the delight of fulfillment disappeared. It is not that way with Jesus. His joy is a continual fountain that brings tremendous refreshing and strength for every moment. I don’t have to wait for it because it is always there for me. All I have to do is be in conscious fellowship with Him. Through the cross of Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, that has been made possible. I am ever so grateful for His faithful watch care over me, meeting every need I have every moment of every day.
