My biggest enemy I have to battle as I follow Christ is my ego. The old “I” always wants to be in control. What is so devious about it is that all of the influence that it thinks it has is an illusion. All I have to do to overcome it is to remain silent and still, focusing my attention on God’s presence. I can recognize the compelling urge my ego has to comment on just about everything, but when I ignore it by remaining quiet and calm, its power quickly diminishes and the distraction evaporates into nothing. While that is happening, I am able to enjoy His presence in a deep and peaceful manner that assures me I am doing His will. In every situation I am able to find something to be grateful for and this increases my desire to spend every moment with Him.
“I will praise the Lord at all times. I will constantly speak his praises. I will boast only in the LORD; let all who are helpless take heart. Come, let us tell of the Lord ’s greatness; let us exalt his name together.”
Psalm 34:1-3
“Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
