Ben Kiowski
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
John 1:1-5

Everything that we see and know came into being through God, and there is nothing outside of his purview! This is a deep and profound mystery that can overwhelm our thoughts as we contemplate the grandiose reality of God’s omnipotence. Further, knowing that Jesus was present at the beginning of creation and is the very light of life for all of us makes the time leading up to Christmas all the more exciting.

As we anticipate celebrating Jesus’ birth into that which he himself created, the expectation that we feel is a response to the love that God has shown us by his sending himself into the world! He loves us so dearly that he gave us light. He loves us so much that he offers to us freely an unconditional love that surpasses our understanding. Stepping out of eternity and entering himself into our human experience for the sake of rescuing us from darkness and bringing us into the kingdom of light was, in our time, the beginning of God’s extravagant plan of love and reconciliation for us.
