I can hardly read these verses without thinking of a variety of renditions of songs that have been written with them; songs of praise, songs of desperation, songs of failure, songs of surrender. The keyword that stands out to me in the above is trust. Trust often is the right answer but just as often is not an easy answer. To trust in God can mean to wait on His sovereignty, to pray, to hope with anticipation, to submit to His ways, and to hold fast to promises. Trust is a choice and also a process. When we surrender our weaknesses to Jesus, it is Christ’s strength and power that lift us up. I hope and pray that these words remain etched into our hearts for all our days, especially on the hard days, as a reminder of our place of strength.
“Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion. But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”
Isaiah 40:30-31
