Years ago, my father was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and dementia. Our stunned family watched for 5 years as a very physically fit man who loved yard work, weekly tennis and playing with his grandkids slowly and steadily declined until God called him home. But what we were also privileged to experience was the renewing and strengthening of dad’s spirit as God prepared him for his homecoming. During some of the most difficult moments, when his body and mind failed, he would become distressed and anxious. We would begin sharing our favorite scriptures or singing hymns to him and watch in awe as the Lord ministered to dad’s spirit. He would relax, close his eyes and begin quoting some of his favorites as well. Although dad’s mind often couldn’t even recall who we were, his spirit could consistently bring forth the living Word of God! Celebrate today the Spirit of the Living God dwelling in you, renewing your spirit each day. His love never fails or fades away!
“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.”
2 Corinthians 4:16
