“God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished — he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.”
Romans 3:25-26
“Nor did he enter heaven to offer himself again and again, the way the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood that is not his own. Otherwise Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But he has appeared once for all at the culmination of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself.”
Hebrews 9:25-26

Since the beginning of sin entering the world, when Adam & Eve disobeyed God, God set up a way for humans to be made right with Him through sacrifice. God made the first sacrifice, killing an animal to cover Adam & Eve when they realized their nakedness. Since God is perfect & just and therefore can’t just overlook our sin, there were other practices He had set up with His people so that they could make sacrifices for their sins to Him. But then Jesus, fully God and fully man, made a perfect (and unjustly deserved) “sacrifice of himself” on the cross. Once and for all sacrificing for all of our sin, claiming ultimate victory against sin and the enemy, and displaying His victory over even death through His resurrection!

How worthy His sacrifice is to cover us. No longer needing a high priest to perform ritual sacrifices for us, but instead entrusting our salvation to our true High Priest in His one-time work on the cross. We have gotten the privilege to see His sacrifice before us; to see His righteousness, justice, and mercy all at once. All freely given to anyone who receives it by faith. Thank you Jesus!
