When I think about it, the number “one” is quite exceptional. Before one comes zero where nothing exists, and then every number after it goes on to infinity. Just like God, the creator, who has always been since the beginning. John 1:3 says, “All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.” God was there in the beginning. And all things on heaven and on earth were created by Him and for His glory! I get dizzy thinking about the seemingly infinite amount of stuff God has created since the beginning of time.
Now, despite this incredible reality, I tend to focus on many other things besides God in my day-to-day. The following words from the hymn, “Come Thou Font,” often ring true in my head, “Prone to wander, Lord I feel it.” I wonder and worry about the multiple issues that face my family and the issues that seem to exponentially increase daily in our culture. The truth is that we each choose to run away from the one true God. Some of us tend to run faster and farther than others. Yet, no matter how far we may get, God is so committed to unity that He made a way through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ for us to be reunited with Him!
So today, we have a choice. Will we choose to remain focused on the many worries and concerns that plague our minds and lives, or are we willing to turn to the living God and live today in fellowship with Him? As the rest of the words of the hymn say, “Here’s my heart, oh take and seal it, seal it for Thy courts above.”
