Paul’s plea here is riveting! Like a dad urging his kids to trust him to know what’s best for them, Paul, who is in prison, urges this young church to live a life in response to what Jesus has done for them. For God knows what’s best for us. The order here is so important. We cannot live for Christ if we think we can earn his love in anyway. Instead, we live for God because of what he has done for us! We cannot give to him without first receiving his free gift of grace. He calls us sons and daughters, not the other way around. Think about it, God calling us means that He is the one pursuing us. 1 John 4:10 says, “This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” The question is, are we willing to answer the call and respond to God by the way we live our life? May our answer today be yes!
"As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received."
