When I read the creation account, the simple diction and seemingly practical account of the tasks that God performed to set this world on its axis can be a bit dry and uninspiring at first. However, not too well hidden between the lines is the awe-inspiring implications of God’s eternal wisdom in creating time itself and each finite existence therein with specific purpose and intrinsic value…a bit more profound than a middle school solar system diorama!
What usually strikes me the most is that God chose to not only create us for relationship but entrust us with the stewardship of his creation! What an honor and privilege to be given so much! The overwhelming and ultimate empowerment of a Father to his children. He rendered us trustworthy at the onset of our existence and authored and fulfilled his plan for our redemption! When he set us down in the garden, he had already redeemed us as the mystery of eternity meeting finitude culminated at the moment He breathed life into the dirt and called it good! To think that the God who lives outside of time in the way that we experience was simultaneously creating and redeeming us all the while entrusting us to steward his creation is a paradox of reality that is hidden deep in the wisdom of God.
Father, we ask that your continued empowerment would turn us to awe and wonder as we seek to follow you well and bear your image as intended. Help us, Father, through the Holy Spirit to walk in step with you…even now as you intended it then with Adam. Thank you that you love us and see us and entrust us with your creation, help us to steward it well!
