Intro

Good Evening! Glad you are all able to attend, I am looking forward to going deep with you all and experiencing the work of the Holy Spirit as we lift the name of Jesus! Since this tis a different setting that we are not used to, I would like to offer a few things to help facilitate worship this evening. It is my hope and prayer that these brief explanations and tools will help make this worship experience deep and impactful! Enjoy!

Worship Is Ascription

When we worship, we are ascribing honor, glory, wisdom, power, and all authority to God because he is good and faithful and trustworthy! The singing of songs allows us to actively participate in this ascription with our voices and our intellect!

Take Action:

  • During worship time this evening, take time to mentally focus on the words of the songs.
  • While you focus on what the song is actually saying, ask God to reconstruct your heart and mind to fully agree with the truths in the song, and honestly ascribe the attributes and lauding that is included in the song to God.

Scripture Directs Worship

Worship Songs are laden with scripture references and intertwine the stories of God found in the scripture. In many ways, worship songs are a retelling of the scripture with colloquial vernacular. We can use scripture to engage our minds and prepare our hearts.

Take Action:

  • Read Psalm 91 in its entirety or in pieces as we worship together tonight.
  • One song in the set tells the story of Lazarus. You can follow along by reading the account in John 11:1-45
  • See if you can pick out and identify some of the other passages and stories as we worship together.
  • One of the songs has the line “you turn bones into armies”! Do you know what story in the Bible that line references?

Prayer Positions Worship

Praying and asking God to fill your mind and heart with his truth is a great way to immerse yourself in the things of God. As we pray, we trust that God, through the access granted by the work of Jesus on the Cross, will speak to our innermost being through the comforting and life-changing presence of the Holy Spirit. We have access to this connection at any time and any place, but as we engage in corporate worship together through the singing of songs, prayer congruent with the engagement of our other senses often allows a profound connection with the Spirit of God as we become fully immersed in His presence.

Take Action:

  • Ask God to speak to you
  • Cast your cares and anxieties upon the Lord by confessing them to Him
  • Receive the kindness and instruction of God by listening to the Holy Spirit
  • Tell God what your hurts and needs are, then listen for the kind voice of our loving Father to respond.
