"But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand."
1 Chronicles 29:14

In 1 Chronicles 29:14, David is standing before the assembly of Israel, filled with gratitude and reverence as people generously contributed to the construction of the temple. He is recognizing and reminding us that our ability to give generously is a gift from God. “Everything comes from you.” This profound truth underscores that all we have – our time, talents, and treasures – originates from God. David’s humility teaches us that God is the ultimate source of everything we possess.

“And we have given you only what comes from your hand.” David emphasized that when we give, we return a portion of what God has entrusted to us. Our wealth, abilities, and opportunities are temporary and are meant for a greater purpose than self-indulgence. This verse challenges us to shift our perspective. Embracing the truth that everything comes from God empowers us to give with joyful, open hearts. We are stewards of God’s blessings.

Let 1 Chronicles 29:14 remind us of humility, gratitude, and generosity. We are dependent on God for everything. As we give, may we do so with hearts full of awe and thanksgiving, knowing that all we have is a gift from the Creator of the universe.
