Many of us have chased after a feeling of closeness to God, trying to check off spiritual to-do lists to earn His favor. We read, we pray, we serve, believing that these actions create a connection. While these practices are vital, they aren’t the source of our union with God; they are the fruit of it. The phrase “union with God” speaks to a profound truth: through Jesus Christ, we are already one with Him.
This isn’t about fleeting moments of emotion but about a deep, abiding reality. It’s in the quiet spaces of absolute surrender where this truth becomes real. It’s when we lay down our own striving and control, realizing that our identity isn’t in what we do for God, but in who we are in Him. This union with God is the foundation of a life of faith.
In Colossians 3, Paul lists virtues like compassion, kindness, and humility, urging us to clothe ourselves in them. Then, he brings it all together with one powerful command: put on love. Love, he says, is the garment that binds all these virtues together in perfect unity.
This isn’t just any love, but God’s loveāthe very essence of who He is. When we live from a place of being united with Him, His love flows through us, making our kindness genuine, our humility sincere, and our compassion a true reflection of His heart. Our oneness with God through Jesus Christ is not a destination we arrive at, but the starting point from which we live and love.
