26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” 27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
Genesis 1:26-27

Every time I come across this passage, I’m reminded of these words: “Know who you are. Know who you serve. Know where you are going.” -Jon Randles.

This has really been a powerful reinforcer for me when I find myself reflecting on what my purpose is. Genesis 1: 26-27 reminds me that my purpose is rooted in my identity, namely, who I am. We have all been created in the likeness of God himself. The very nature of our existence is to be in relationship with our creator. We achieve this solely by surrendering our lives to the one who paid the ultimate price and committing to serve and follow Jesus in obedience. By walking in obedience and growing in relationship with Jesus, we discover the specifics of our role in engaging the world with the life-changing message of Jesus! May we start this new week with the refreshing reminder of who we are, the God that we serve, and the purpose of our lives.
