"This letter is from Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ. I am writing to God's chosen people who are living as foreigners in the provinces of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia. God the Father knew you and chose you long ago, and his Spirit has made you holy. As a result, you have obeyed him and have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ. May God give you more and more grace and peace."
1 Peter 1:1-2

Understanding our position in Christ is paramount to living free and with purpose. Looking back at the early years of my walk, I lived more from a position of thought that “I chose Christ.” So, my daily way of moving through the world reflected that. Sometimes, I would choose God and His ways, but more often, the world’s temptations were too enticing, and I would choose my own. Often, the consequences were mild, but sometimes they were very costly.

Growing in the knowledge of God and understanding that He knew me, He chose me long before I ever chose Him changes my perspective entirely. I belong to Him, not just when it’s convenient but always and forever through all circumstances. Daily walking in ever-growing awareness of that gives me such peace. I’m created for Him and His purposes.

As I was driving home from errands today, the fall colors highlighted the wide variety of trees, bushes, and small plants that lined the roadside. Usually, they’re all just a general shade of green, and you don’t notice the vast variety native to our hill country. But arrayed in the colors of autumn, it was easy to see just how beautiful and creative God is. It’s certainly that way with us. Our Father foreknew each of us and created us with intention for His purposes. We are His autumn splendor, created for His glory. May the knowledge that you are set apart and chosen continually fill you with more grace and peace in Christ.
