"By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God."
Hebrews 11:8-10

Have you ever been called by God to somewhere, but you inevitably have no idea where you’re going? This chapter in the Bible is known as the Faith Hall of Fame. Abraham lives and walks by faith to step into his inheritance and the promises of God. Maybe you aren’t being called to go start a life in a city that doesn’t exist yet, but no matter what, God is always calling us to one specific place… He always calls us to Himself. So often, when God puts a dream or a desire in our hearts, we like to take it into our own hands. We do our best to manipulate outcomes, to tinker with circumstances, and to create the result that we think we should have. Instead of wanting to surrender, we want control. But the beautiful thing about God is that as verse 10 in this passage says, He is ultimately the architect and our builder for our lives. When we pursue the builder more than what He is building, He puts everything where it needs to go in our lives.

When God calls you to something or puts a desire on your heart, you don’t stop suddenly needing Him. We need Him to build the dream we dreamed. We need Him to order our steps. I encourage you to ask yourself today, what is that one situation you are still trying to maintain control over? What are the things we need to take a step back on and let the master constructor build? God is more than able and more than capable of bringing about the season you desire. But there is a purpose in the waiting and in the trust. Instead of leaning on your own understanding, lean on God to take care of you. You might just discover a deeper, newfound trust in your architect.
