"It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ was not known, so that I would not be building on someone else's foundation. Rather, as it is written: 'Those who were not told about him will see, and those who have not heard will understand.' This is why I have often been hindered from coming to you."
Romans 15:20-22

It wasn’t very long after I came to faith in Christ that I found myself talking to other people about what had happened to me. I had grown up in a traditional, denominational church, but I had never experienced a personal encounter of intimacy with Christ like I had when I made a decision to turn my life over to Him and become one of His followers. Whether it was where I worked or people I encountered in my various life situations, I began to share the good news about what God had done for me. That was in November of 1964, and I have been doing that ever since. Most of the time, I never knew the results of how my testimony impacted their lives, but that wasn’t my responsibility. I share my faith out of the overflow of what He is doing in my life and trust God to work in the hearts of those with whom I meet.

One man I encountered thirty years ago became a friend I started meeting with weekly. Eventually, he became a follower of Jesus, and we still meet regularly for lunch and share what God is doing in our lives. He is a college professor at Texas State and has made a big impact on many students’ lives, influencing them to become followers of Jesus.
