“When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. He told them: ‘Take nothing for the journey—no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no extra shirt.’”
Luke 9:1-3

The disciples are being commissioned to do the very things they have witnessed Jesus do during His ministry on earth. Proclaim the kingdom of God, cast out demons, and heal the sick. Indeed, that is no small task. Perhaps equally as challenging are the commands that follow that they are to take nothing with them. No money, no backpack, no snacks, no second layer of clothing, and not even a walking stick for the hike ahead. The point Jesus is making is that he wants the disciples to rely and trust in Him alone to accomplish the mission that He has set out for them.

What does this week look like for you? What is on your schedule today? What would it look like if we took these words to heart and went on mission this week fully relying on God?

Father, I pray that you give me the awareness to rely and trust in you today and this week. Thank you for your faithfulness and your power. You are enough.
