"You, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. I call out to the Lord, and He answers me from His holy mountain. I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me. I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side."
Psalm 3:3-5
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30

I am grateful for the gift of sleep. It is one activity that I experience daily that refreshes me as nothing else can do. When I am asleep, the Lord blesses me with the ability to rest in a way that allows my body, mind, and soul to recuperate from the events of each day. When I awake from a nap, many times I become aware that I am entering another period of time and opportunity to be consciously engaged in communion with Him. For many years I took my waking hours for granted and habitually went through daily routines without giving any thought to God or His kingdom. Now, I am blessed with a continual awareness of Him that makes every wakeful moment potentially vibrant and alive with His peace and joy. I pray that the Lord will draw me closer to Him every time I wake up from periods of rest and sleep.
