All of the money in the world could never purchase what God, in His love for us, has freely given through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross. We, who were once slaves to sin, have been bought at the price of Christ’s atoning death. It is for freedom that Christ has set us free, but not so that we can indulge ourselves in what we want. Our liberty is to do what God desires. He is the one who is at work in us, guiding our every step by His Spirit and leading us to become conformed to the image of Christ. That is God’s purpose in redemption and it should be our primary ambition as well. That is why the Holy Spirit dwells in us and progressively reveals everything that God has freely given so that we may grow to become mature believers who glorify and honor Him. This is our calling in life and everything else is subsidiary.
“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
“What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us.”
1 Corinthians 2:12
