"I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world."
John 16:33

This verse in John 16 comes just after Jesus shares His crucifixion plan with His disciples, and they were caught off guard, to say the least. Jesus is going to… die? The hope of the world is going to… leave? I would’ve been right there with them…surely the plans to rule and reign were going to come true! Yet, Jesus’ way of conquering was far greater than any of the disciples could’ve ever imagined. Despite leaving the disciples with more questions than answers, Jesus encouraged them to have peace in who Jesus was…the One who has overcome the world despite everything about to be thrown their way. Oh, how I often relate to the disciple’s confusion and fear…thinking God only works in the ways I expect him to. Thankfully He doesn’t leave the world up to me, for He knows best.

Lord, please help me find peace and rest in Your protection, provision, and plan for my life. You’ve overcome the very world that I fear. Please grow my faith in who You are and who I am.
