The commands that God gives me in the law go against my sinful nature and they are made weak because of my ego. But they are not burdensome because they bring great blessings and rewards for those who keep them. In the garden there was only one simple command that God gave Adam and Eve, and they were unable to keep it. It was hundreds of years later that God gave the law through Moses, yet the consequences of one transgression brought death to all mankind, even when there were no commands to disobey. The law brought with it more transgressions than ever before but where sin increased, grace increased in a greater measure. Today I have tremendous opportunities to walk with and fellowship with God, but I have had, in my past, a very difficult time trusting Him. This mistrust created a wall between Him and me because of my unbelief. I am grateful that God has been patient with me and proved Himself to be faithful, even when I wasn’t.
“For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”
Matthew 5:18-19
“The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Romans 5:20-21
