This is a powerful scripture. Notice the word “the” mentioned in front of way, truth, and life. Jesus is emphasizing the importance that He is the ONLY way; He is not “a” way, “a” truth, or “a” life, which allows for options. He was speaking plainly that the only way to the Father is through Him. What does that mean? It means that to get to the Father and be saved, we must accept Jesus as our Savior and Lord.
Let us truly believe that Jesus was nailed to the cross and chose death for our sins so that we could live free from bondage. He offers eternal life to us through salvation. As the way, Jesus is our guide to God; as the truth, Jesus is the reality of God’s promises in the bible; and as the life, Jesus secures a place for us in eternity. He also, on this side of heaven, gives us inner peace, freedom from bondage, and a good life filled with the Holy Spirit.
Growing up, I did not understand this scripture. I believed that all I had to do was go to church on Sundays, obey my parents, be nice (most of the time), and do good in life. I was so wrong. That is why I am grateful for the men in my life that took the time to explain this scripture to me. They explained that the above-mentioned deeds were all good to do, but they would not secure me a spot in heaven. Believing in Jesus was my security to being saved.
Now I read God’s word, I spend time in prayer, and I simply hang out with Him. In doing so, I get to live in a personal relationship with Him. I get to learn more of God’s character, His thoughts for me, and I recognize His voice. I am thankful that I am loved and approved.
Thank You, Lord, for “the” sure way to get to you.
