“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
Matthew 25:34-36

In order to understand verse 34-36 we must read the surrounding scriptures. Verses 31 to 33 explains that on Judgement day Jesus will sit on His throne and separate the people like a shepherd separates his sheep from his goats. The Amplified version of this passage says “and He will put the sheep on His right [the place of honor], and the goats on His left [the place of rejection].” In other words, He is going to separate the non-believers from the believers. The sheep have chosen Jesus as their Lord and Savior, they are living a life of honor. The goats are the ones that have rejected Him.

Jesus continues by speaking to those on the right, the sheep, by telling them that it’s time for them to receive their inheritance, which is the kingdom of God. He says, when I was hungry you fed me, when I was thirsty you gave me something to drink, when I was sick you took care of me. The righteous responded to Jesus by saying, when did we see you in need? Verse 40 says, “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’” When we love and care for those around us through the power of the Holy Spirit and in the name of Jesus we are loving and care for our almighty God.
