When I see the words “pure in heart”, I cringe a little. I know that my heart is impure…mean thoughts, jealousy, selfishness, doubts. Honestly, sometimes I wonder if infants are the only people capable of being pure in heart because the world comes in pretty quickly to create impurity. But it doesn’t take long for God to remind me that the death of his son Jesus is (and his taking my sin upon himself) are what make me pure. It is my job to pursue purity and holiness, fight sinful temptations, and set my mind on things above. The promise of the verse above is that the pure in heart will SEE GOD. Since we all want to see God, let’s get serious about checking our hearts and pursuing purity.
"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God."
Matthew 5:8
