"It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives sleep to his beloved."
Psalm 127:2

Studies reveal that the number of people struggling with anxiety has increased significantly in recent years. While we all struggle with worry from time to time, scriptures such as this one remind us that Jesus is the answer. His parting encouragement to his disciples before he was betrayed and arrested spoke of his peace. “These things I have spoken to you so that in me you may have peace. In the world, you face tribulation. But take courage; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33. The Lord has so much compassion for our human condition. He knew that we would face many trials and struggles; some through no fault of our own and some brought on by our own choices. Whether we are facing a myriad of issues from various sources or wrestling with a giant such as a serious health battle, the answer to peace in our soul is always Jesus.

The other day, I saw a video of a darling puppy trying desperately to get out of his crate. He yipped, yelped, anxiously clawed, and bit his cage. As the person filming pulled back from the close-up of the helpless pup, you saw that his crate door, only inches away from him, was wide open. Freedom was his, but he was fixated on what was before him. We are not unlike the sweet pup. We fixate on our problems, rather than receiving the freedom and peace readily available in Christ. It takes intentionality to redirect our focus to Jesus, but when we do, he never disappoints.

Let’s take time today to give him our worries. Studies also show that humming or singing reduces stress. So please put on your favorite worship songs, and enter his presence. You will find peace.
