There are four primary ways that we honor other people. These are how we build up the body of Christ as we work together, each member doing their part. Relationships thrive when we trust one another. However, just as a bank account is only as solid as the money we put in it, trust requires that we make deposits into the trust account in one another’s heart.
First of all, we must be honest with one another. It tells us in Ephesians 4:25 says, “Speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of Christ.” One of the greatest blessings a person can have is a forthright friend.
The second necessary thing is respect. Respect occurs when we value others and appreciate them by looking out for their interests and showing them kindness.
The third way we honor others is by being attentive to what they say. Being a good listener and showing sincere interest in another person’s dreams and aspirations lets them know you care.
The fourth way is to be trustworthy. By keeping your promises and being dependable when your assistance is needed, you honor those who need help.
My wife and I are blessed to be a part of a group of people where these attributes are demonstrated continually. As we keep making positive and cooperative contributions toward one another we will grow to become a mature community of believers who glorify God.
