“He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. Then he said to them, ‘My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.’”
Matthew 26:37-38

Jesus was about to do something incredibly challenging. He knew he would suffer and die for the world’s sins. It was a burden no human being could grasp.

Jesus was carrying more weight than any ordinary person could understand. That’s how He felt. He was carrying the weight of everyone’s sinful choices. It was almost too much to bear.

Even though Jesus was perfect, he still needed friends. The Lord asked Peter, James, and John to stay with him. Jesus wanted them to be there for him during this difficult time. Yet, they could not imagine the struggle He was undergoing.

Jesus’ request for their participation shows us that it’s okay to ask for help when we’re in a difficult place. We all go through tough times and don’t have to go through them alone. We can talk to our friends, family, and God.

Just like Jesus needed his friends, we need people to support us. But the greatest thing to remember is that God is always with you, even when things are hard.
