This verse reminds me of how heavy and troubling times can get, and yet how our nature is still to find things that we can try to put our hope in. We can fill our thoughts, motives, and actions in trying to control, cope, or cover the things that trouble us most. And yet all of those things are in the world, so they can’t overcome the world.
Jesus’s words are full of contradictions, and yet they are true because He is the one who has overcome the world. He is the one worthy of putting our trust and hope in. He is the one who gives us peace, regardless of our circumstances. He never fails.
Jesus, You are the Faithful One. Help us to see You more clearly amidst our troubles. Show us where we’ve tried to put our hope and comfort in the wrong sources. Speak trust to each of our hearts and help us receive Your peace today, in Jesus’ Name.
