My ego wants me to believe that I am in control. It is repulsed at the idea that it is really under the rule of another master. However, I eventually had to face the truth that there was no hope of ever being my boss because I will always belong to someone else; either God or Satan. The illusion that I am a free man, capable of independence from the jurisdiction of another master, was a reality that I had to face before I could be liberated from the great lie. My ego wanted me to think that I am the captain of my destiny. However, through the gospel, I came to understand that I am hopelessly enslaved to sin and the only way of escape is death. Mercifully, Jesus chose to be my means of deliverance and took my place on the cross so that I could live as one who is dead to sin and alive to Him. Now I am joyfully living as His slave because He purchased my freedom at Calvary.
“No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.”
Matthew 6:24
