"that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God."
Ephesians 3:17-19

Being rooted and grounded in love is a result of being strengthened by God’s Spirit at work inside of us. From this foundation of love flows our strength to understand and know the love of Christ that surpasses all knowledge.

The end result we look forward to, according to Paul, is being filled with the fullness of God. He maintains that only those who have come to know Christ are able to begin the process of understanding the breadth and length and height and depth of who God is. To be clear, Paul is not proclaiming some triumphalist approach wherein you achieve some full or perfect understanding of God. Rather, he is providing prayers for everyone who is trying to somehow make sense of God and life in a broken and fallen world. Paul’s belief is that through faith, hope, and love, we can cling to the fullness of God and find completion in that experience.
