She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).
Matthew 1:21-23

All of the years I have followed Jesus has been influenced greatly by this passage. I do not follow a mere human being. There have been many who have served as great role models, but Jesus is one of a kind. He is the only person who ever lived who was not conceived by a man and woman. That makes Him unique as the only person born physically by the power of God’s Spirit.

The thing that makes us unique is that we are born again by the very same Spirit that conceived Jesus in the womb of Mary. This makes us partakers of God’s nature and gives each of us the potential to live our lives as Jesus did when He was living on the earth. The thing that gave Jesus His strength and power was the joy of the Father that was continually set before Him, even while He was in the process of being crucified.

The joy we have in our hearts as we rejoice in who we are in Christ and live our lives in His strength enables us to endure the most difficult circumstances we will ever have to face.
