Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
1 Timothy 1:15-17

Jesus has loved us so comprehensively that he came into the world to rescue us from ourselves and bring us into reconciliation with him. The all-powerful God Almighty has considered us friends and gave himself up for us through the completed work of Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection!

It seems impossible! It is nearly unbelievable that I, the foremost sinner, as Paul says it, have found mercy from the God of all creation! This is a raucous scandal! How could it be that my contravening of God could be erased!? Paid for!? Forgiven!?

It is God’s deep and unfailing love that administers his perfect patience to us as his kindness leads us to repentance. Furthermore, in that repentance, we can now give honor and glory to God as a response to his unmerited favor and love.
