This verse always brings to memory Paul’s words in Romans 12:15. “Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.” May we be reminded today that the heart of the Golden Rule is really about being empathetic towards others. One of my mentors used to put it this way: “Be for someone else what you wish you would have had at that moment.” May we be intentional today to be what others need in whatever season of life they may be in. If it’s a friend, be a friend. If it’s a mentor, be a mentor. If it’s a shoulder to cry on, then be just that. If it’s someone’s sounding board, then be a listening ear. Whether it is rejoicing or mourning with someone, I pray today that we will be Jesus to those who are in need. Meet them where they are and allow Jesus to do what he does. Just as you would wish for someone to do the same for you.
12 “Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.
