Jesus tells us straight up. “Do not be anxious.” Do. Not. Be. Anxious. Not about anything. Consider the lilies…they grow so big and beautiful and fragrant, but they don’t have to strive and worry that they will have what they need. All that beauty is the result of God lovingly caring for them. Their lifespan is so short compared to that of humans. Some of them are never even seen by human eyes, and yet, God clothes them in beauty and majesty.
Imagine how much more God cares for us. His love has been poured out on us through the sacrifice of His Son on the cross. His power on our behalf has been displayed through the resurrection of Jesus. However, His love for us did not stop with His sacrifice. He wants to be intimately involved in every area of our daily lives. He longs for us to let go of our striving and worry, and to trust Him instead. He knows what we need before we even recognize it or ask Him. We only have to seek God’s kingdom first, and He will ensure that we are cared for and provided for.
My worry and fear of the future is an expression of how little faith I am living out. The simple beauty of Lillies should be a reminder to me that God intricately designed both them and me. He created me and loves me with the love of a parent who wants the best for His child. If I remember how much God loves me, I can let go of my worry and fear, continuously and diligently replacing it with faith in His care of me. When the world around me feels chaotic, He still cares for me. When others are against me, God still loves me. When I feel like there is not enough (time, money, strength, health, etc.), God is standing there, ready to provide if I will turn to Him.
May we trust God more today than we did yesterday.
