Repentance is our initial response to the gospel. It is an act of obedience because God commands all people everywhere to repent (Acts 17:30).
Anytime we find ourselves turning away from the truth, we also need to repent and turn back to the Lord. God’s grace and mercy are always available to us if we humble ourselves before Him.
Oftentimes when I am introducing myself to someone for the first time, I let them know that I am a recovering alcoholic. I will be in recovery as long as I am in this physical body because I have a weakness that I continually need to turn over to the Lord. The good news is that His grace is sufficient for me, and He imparts His strength to me when I acknowledge my weakness. I have had several serious relapses, but each time I confessed my sin and turned back to the Lord in repentance. He has welcomed me back with a warm embrace.
