Have you ever felt like a small part of something really great? In the eighth grade, I got to play in the all-state middle school band in Florida. I had practiced for my audition on the saxophone for a year straight. So, needless to say, I felt rather honored and excited when I got the gig! Way more than a personal accomplishment, however, I will never forget the tears that flowed down my face at the end of our concert. See, the sound of the entire ensemble so moved me. The truth is we were just a group of fifty some odd kids playing a variety of instruments, but when we all played our parts in sync, we sounded like the New York Philharmonic! Not only did we sound great, but it was also relieving to know that, unlike the audition, I was not the only one playing. It was not all up to me.
See, that’s what it sounds like when we each play the part God has given us in each season of our life. We get to play a small part of something great. We also have the comfort of knowing that it’s just not all up to us! We all have different gifts that God has given us, and when we use them to equip one another and serve one another, the body of Christ is built up! What gifts has God given you? How are you using them to build up the body of Christ in this season of your life?
