A short yet profound verse. There are so many amazing attributes about the shepherding nature of God, be it His loving kindness, perfect provision, and careful protection, to name a few. And while I know and believe all those characteristics, I find myself often thinking He’s this big, distant God that is busy tending to sheep elsewhere. But this verse doesn’t say the Lord is “the” shepherd; it says the Lord is “my” shepherd. He knows me. He knows where I’m at, what I’m thinking, how I’m feeling, and what I need. I think that it’s only when I fully grasp that truth that I can then live out the second part… I shall not want. He’s with me, He’s caring for me, and He’s providing for me so I can rely on Him for full guidance and direction…instead of pursuing all the desires of the world and my flesh.
Lord, thank You for being my shepherd. I pray that I would receive Your love, grace, and mercy in a new way today. May I grow in my reliance and dependence on You throughout my day today.
