I can recall being in a situation in Adak, Alaska, less than a year after I started following Jesus. Our ship was in port near the end of the Aleutian Islands, and the only people living there were Navy personnel and their families. After attending a worship service at the base chapel, a family invited me to their home and showed me what it meant to be a follower of Jesus by the way they expressed His love to me. Our ship was in and out of that port, so I developed a good relationship with them over the next few months. Not once did they do a teaching or Bible study on hospitality, but they lived it out by example and taught me by their love, acceptance, and actions. When God lives in a person, the fruit of His Spirit will be manifested in that person’s life. Love never fails. When we love others the way Jesus did, we will flow with the River of life that comes from Him and through us to others.
“If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.”
